Sybase ASE 16 installation on Linux

In this tutorial, we are going to download the Sybase ASE 16 and install it on Linux(Redhat). ASE installation can be either GUI or CLI. In this tutorial, we are going to install with CLI.

Prerequisites:

Login with either root user or grant /opt/ permissions to user.
Virtual Machine or Physical Machine with Linux OS installation.

1. Download the software from this link.

2. Untar the tar file with following command tar -xvf ASE_Suite.linuxamd64.tgz

3. It contains following files.
Sybase ASE 16 installation on Linux

4. We are going to install ASE with CLI(Command Line Interface).

5. Run the following command.

./setup.bin -i console

6. Enter the path to copy installation files or If we want to go with /opt/sap/, then press enter and type ‘y’.

7. Choose Install set among following, I select ‘Full’ as my requirement by entering 3.

8. Do you want SAP ASE Installer to install SAP Host Agent? N

9. Select License type. We are going to isntall Evaluate ASE.

Software License Type Selection ——————————- What would you like to do? ->1- Install licensed copy of SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise 2- Install Express Edition of SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise 3- Evaluate SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise Enter one of the options above: 3

10. Select regions as all by type 1 and press enter.

11. Read the License Agreement and accept it.

12. Review the features and press enter to start Installation.

Configuration of ASE server:

1. Please deselect any products that you do not want to configure now :

[X] 1 – Configure new SAP ASE [X] 2 – Configure new Backup Server [ ] 3 – Configure new XP Server [ ] 4 – Configure new Job Scheduler [ ] 5 – Enable Self Management [ ] 6 – Configure Historical Monitoring Data Repository [ ] 7 – Configure Cockpit

2. Configure Servers with Different User Account

Do you want to configure the server(s) under different user account? 1- Yes ->2- No Enter one of the options above: 2

3. User Configuration Data Directory as you wish otherwise it selects default location.

Enter the directory where you want to store user data files such as interfaces file, RUN_ file, error log, etc.. The files for the server(s) you about to create will be placed in this directory. Data Directory (Default: /opt/sap):

4. Configure New SAP ASE

SAP ASE Name (Default: SYBASE): System Administrator’s Password: Confirm System Administrator’s Password: Host Name (Default: 192.168.199.139): Port Number (Default: 5000): Error Log (Default: /opt/sap/ASE-16_0/install/SYBASE.log):

5. Select Application Type

->1- Mixed (OLTP/DSS) 2- Online Transaction Proccessing (OLTP) 3- Decision Support Systems (DSS) Select an application type:

6. Page Size

1- 2k ->2- 4k 3- 8k 4- 16k Select a page size:

7. Select Default Language:

8. Default Sort Order:
Enable SAP ASE for SAP ASE Cockpit monitoring
1- No
->2- Yes

Following step is to install sample databases or not

9. Create sample databases

->1- No 2- Yes Do you want to create sample databases?: 2

Master Device (Default: /opt/sap/data/master.dat):
Master Device Size (MB) (Default: 65):
Master Database Size (MB) (Default: 26):
System Procedure Device (Default: /opt/sap/data/sysprocs.dat):
System Procedure Device Size (MB) (Default: 196):
System Procedure Database Size (MB) (Default: 196):
System Device (Default: /opt/sap/data/sybsysdb.dat):
System Device Size (MB) (Default: 6):
System Database Size (MB) (Default: 6):
Tempdb Device (Default: /opt/sap/data/tempdbdev.dat):
Tempdb Device Size (MB) (Default: 100):
Tempdb Database Size (MB) (Default: 100):
Enable PCI
->1- No
2- Yes

10. Configure New Backup Server

Backup Server Name (Default: SYBASE_BS): Port Number (Default: 5001): Error Log (Default: /opt/sap/ASE-16_0/install/SYBASE_BS.log): Allow Hosts (Default: ):

11. Review summary and press enter to complete configuration.

Once, this above steps completed, then start the ASE(sybase) 16 by using below link:
Start Sybase(ASE) Server after installation.
